One Legged Table

This table made from thirteen household tables is cut to make a table that is twelve and a half feet long by six feet wide. Each section of table has one leg so that it can only support itself in conjunction with the others. The table is a metaphor for bringing people together from different points of view to discuss issues.

These tables have their own histories from the countries where they were originally fabricated, to the households where the tables became the place where conversations happen. The chairs, all collected, repaired, and repainted, are hung on the walls and will be taken down from the walls for the dinners.

There will be a series of four sponsored dinners planned at the gallery. Each will include 14 guests invited to discuss a particular topic around climate change. Each dinner will have one issue that will be discussed by people across the range of interests, age groups and ethnicity.

These dinners will be recorded and a web site created as a public record. It is my intention that the discourse around these dinners will generate connections and action by the participants.
